GROK3 Announcement - Key Highlights
GROK 3 Base Model, Deep Search, Advanced Reasoning Modes, GROK 3 Mini and a new subscription tier were announced today
XAI has been diligently working on enhancing its AI tool, GROK, and has made significant progress since the launch of GROK 1. Just 17 months after the rollout of its initial model, which had limited capabilities, the team has developed GROK 2 and is now unveiling GROK 3. This latest model boasts over 314 billion parameters and is anticipated to be 10-15 times more powerful than its predecessor. The name "GROK," inspired by Robert Heinlein's science fiction novel, refers to a deep level of understanding, which the team aims for the AI to achieve.
The team at XAI, comprised of lead engineer Igor, research lead Jimmy Paul, reasoning team member Tony, and Elon Musk, has faced numerous challenges, such as managing the technical complexities of training with a significantly increased number of GPU chips—from 6,500 to over 100,000. Following the decision to build its data center, the construction was completed remarkably fast, resulting in the largest connected graphics processing unit (GPU) cluster.
GROK 3 has undergone rigorous testing in various areas, including mathematics, STEM knowledge, and coding tasks. It has shown remarkable performance, outperforming competitors in blind tests, and particularly excelling in math and coding reasoning, indicating its growth beyond basic memorization to more complex reasoning capabilities.
The team showcased GROK's advanced reasoning through two practical demonstrations: calculating a space trajectory from Earth to Mars and creating a hybrid game combining elements of Tetris and Bejeweled. Both tasks highlighted GROK's ability to engage in complex reasoning processes, producing feasible coding solutions and demonstrating its creative capacity.
